Lounge is a semi-quiet place for students and adults to hang out (see the Handbook for all details about Lounge). When the bell rings, take attendance. If students are missing you will need to check with sub-pool to see if the family is out. If the family is here, have someone from the Board Table find the parent so we know the location of the student and bring them back to the lounge if needed.

This class is all about discovering and having fun with classic children's books! Each week we will read a book from various authors, such as James Marshall, Tomie DePaola, Mary Hofstrand, William Steig, Kevin Henkes, and many more. We will also explore a subject that coincides with the book read that day with games, crafts, etc. Toward the end of the co-op year, I will help your child discover the joy of being the author/illustrator of their very own book. Children's literature has had a great impact on my life and I am excited for the opportunity to share my passion with your child!
Music & Movement

This will be a very fun, interactive class for music beginners who want to explore this marvelous subject. The music fundamentals of rhythm, pitch, and note reading will be explored through different percussion instruments, singing, movement, books, listening to music, and more.
Earth to Children (A)

This class will focus on earth science at grade appropriate levels. Each week we will have a lesson with either an art project, science experiment, or activity to help the kids have a deeper understanding of the lesson. There are so many topics to dive into with earth science so this class will have rotating topics from one year to another.
Indoor/Outdoor Games (2-3)

A fun and interactive class that focuses on skill development, application of knowledge, sportsmanship, spirituality and leadership. Come join us for a fun and peaceful way to begin the co-op day! This is a great way to make new friends and build community through interaction with puzzles and games. Kids will enjoy playing a variety of different games including board games, card games, as well as a variety of puzzles. Seasonal crafts will be available, often, for kids to utilize their creativity. Activity sheets and/or coloring pages will also be available for kids that need a little quiet time to begin their busy day at co-op.
Chess 1

Learn the most popular game ever invented! Chess develops spatial thinking, problem solving and builds focused concentration. Students will receive a one year Chesskid.com gold membership with class enrollment that will begin with chess basics and beginning tactics, and then progress through strategies for openings, defenses, and endings. Chess 1 is designed for the younger student or those who would like to learn chess at a slower progression than Chess 2. Classroom time will involve reinforcing concepts learned on Chesskid.com with board demonstrations, puzzles, group discussions, but most of all...PLAYING chess! Students will also learn chess variants, participate in puzzle challenges and in-class tournaments.

Get ready to create beautiful works of art! Using acrylic paints, paint pens, and other materials, your creativity will be unleashed—whether you’re an artist or not! With step-by-step guidance, we will build each painting from the background up using simple techniques anyone can learn. We will be working with various sizes (8x10 to 16x20) of stretched canvas, canvas boards, and a few other materials to embellish our paintings. We might even tackle a lighted canvas project. Come willing to learn, paint, and create! (Note: Projects usually repeat on a 3-year rotation.)

Mystery of History II (4-6)

Embark on an exciting journey through world history from the Early Church through the Middle Ages (33A.D. - 1456 A.D.) Students will create a Mystery of History notebook, which features a keepsake timeline. Alongside this, the class will have various crafts, activities, and a few written assignments throughout the year. Students will learn to create memory cards, memorizing 12 important dates during the course. Join us as we dig into the past, revealing God’s sovereign hand in history.

Beginning Drawing

Beginning Drawing will be a class for students who are interested in drawing, but don't know where to start or how to get comfortable working out pictures on paper. We will be working in a variety of mediums and surfaces, but the main focus here is to get comfortable with drawing from what we can see, rather than just what we imagine in our heads. We will be doing some demos and also working on shading and texture. Students should come prepared to draw every class day. Lessons will be brief and the majority of the time will be used to draw! For the first semester, I will be following the structure of "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" by Betty Edwards. For the second semester, we will be diving into a couple other mediums and working with reference pictures for inspiration.
Junior High Literature

From the fireside of Green Gables to the Shadow of the Lonely Mountain and beyond, we will experience what makes great stories great and why ancient tales continue to be retold in compelling ways today. We will learn to see how every story points us back to the One Story - the Gospel. The focus of this class will be on learning how to read with attention, exploring foundational literary imagery, examining the techniques authors use to tell a great story, and getting to know some great works of literature. Public Speaking

This course aims to teach students the basics of speaking before a crowd. We will be learning how communication works, what good communication looks like, verbal and non verbal communication, how to build an outline, and many other things as we practice our speech skills. There will be multiple speeches given in class including poetry, literature, scripture, and speeches written by the students among others. This class will require participation in class and practice out of class so commitment to the course will be necessary. Internet access will also be required in order to access Canvas.
Biblical Literacy

Discover the treasure of learning how to study the world's best-selling book of all time! This class will give students the tools they need to understand the Bible and apply its truth to daily life. Along with a Biblical overview, we will learn how to do word, character, land and topical studies. Students will examine specific passages using study tools to understand original language, context, culture and thought. Once we have a good grasp of basic Bible study skills, we will go on a quest to find our Messiah from Genesis to Revelation by exploring the feasts, tents, tabernacle, temple, types, shadows and prophecy. Students may also learn basic ministry skills such as sharing the gospel, sermon/Sunday School prep and how to offer Christ's love to others in practical ways.
Biology 8am

This rigorous college-prep biology course provides a detailed introduction to the methods and concepts of general biology. Heavily emphasizing the vocabulary of biology, this course will provide the student with a strong background in the scientific method, the five-kingdom classification scheme, microscopy, biochemistry, cellular biology, molecular and Mendelian genetics, evolution, dissection, and ecosystems. It also provides a complete survey of the five kingdoms in Creation. Students who take and understand this course will be very well-prepared for a university sciences. Successful completion of the course results in high school science credit with a lab. Class time will be spent in lecture, module review and labs.
Chemistry 8am

This rigorous high school course covers basic principles of chemistry and provides the student with an excellent foundation for college-level work. During class, we will concentrate on completing the labs and reviewing Study Guides. Time will also be devoted to lecture, discussion, and reinforcement activities. As the majority of class time will be spent on lab work, the bulk of the reading,studying and test taking will be done by the student during the week at home. Successful completion of this course results in one high school credit for science with a lab and a deeper appreciation for the wonder of God's creation. PARENT RESPONSIBILITY: Oversee completion of weekly homework assignments and monitor test-taking. Please note: This class is 1 1/2 hours long and starts at 8:00am!
Practical Life Skills

This course is designed to equip high school students with essential life skills that will help them navigate adulthood with confidence and competence. Through a combination of hands-on activities, interactive lessons, and real-world applications, students will learn practical skills that are fundamental for personal and professional success. Topics covered include resumes and applications, taxes and insurance, auto purchasing and ownership, home ownership and maintenance, cooking, cleaning, social etiquette, and more. This class will use Canvas; students need to have access and know how to use the learning platform. This course is one (1) high school credit.
