Description:

Lounge is a semi-quiet place for students and adults to hang out (see the Handbook for all details about Lounge). When the bell rings, take attendance. If the family is here, have someone from the Board Table find the parent so we know the location of the student and bring them back to the lounge if needed.

In Preschool Movement, we get the kids moving outside as often as possible. This class offers extra phonics practice to help students build confidence as they begin their journey to becoming readers. We’ll review letter sounds, identify beginning, middle, and ending sounds in words, and practice sounding out and blending words. Hands-on activities like sorting, word building, and creating word families will keep learning active and fun. A variety of games will reinforce skills while making phonics enjoyable! This is not a full phonics program. The goal is to provide reinforcement activities that support and strengthen what students are learning at home. Skills Covered: Letter sounds, CVC words, short vowels, beginning and ending blends. We will revisit the same foundational phonics skills each year.

Picture Perfect Science

Picture-Perfect Science will be lots of fun with many hands-on experiments while we learn! The curriculum follows the National Science Education Standards for K-4 and uses the basics of the scientific method. Every two weeks, we will read a fiction book and then a nonfiction book related to our weekly lesson topics, such as bubbles, trees, oceans, magnets, rocks, stars, worms and more. This is a 2-year rotation class (we will be using the 1st year curriculum) meaning we will do new experiments and topics in the 2026-267 year if there are repeat students from the 2025-26 class.

We will create with growing confidence and learn to embrace the "Beautiful Oops" by Barney Salzberg. In this class, students will put together a binder of the 50 US states, a sectional map as we start a new state group, the Great Lakes, North America and major rivers of our country. We will label the capitol and largest city in each state and maybe something special in each state. We will also look at pictures from each state. We will practice our state knowledge and trivia through games and puzzles. Each student will also have a US map test sheet that he/she will color in as they memorize a state name. Because of the variety of reading abilities, parents can choose to have the student read to themselves, a parent read, or listen to an audio book. Each week we will have class discussions pertaining to the book and go over the new vocab words they encounter in these great classics. This class was on a two-year rotation, but this year we will be reading some new books in addition to ones from year 1 rotation.

We will be using the Nourishing Traditions cookbook as our textbook which is largely based on the research of Dr. Weston A. Price. By the end of the school year students will have the skills and knowledge to serve their family a beautiful meal, gaining deeper knowledge and gratitude for how traditional whole foods build faith, health, families and communities.

This is a beginning course in robotics. We will be utilizing Lego Mindstorm EV3 robot kits and Lego Spike Prime kits. The objective of this course is to introduce the student to basic programming as well as problem solving skills. Students will work hands-on in teams to design, build and program the robots. At the beginning of the year each team will build base robots and learn how the motors and sensors operate and use the EV3 scratch software to program the robots. We will conduct a battle bot competition and then end the year working together to complete First Lego League challenges using the skills we have learned throughout the year.
