Description:

Lounge is a semi-quiet place for students and adults to hang out (see the Handbook for all details about Lounge). When the bell rings, take attendance. If students are missing you will need to check with sub-pool to see if the family is out. If the family is here, have someone from the Board Table find the parent so we know the location of the student and bring them back to the lounge if needed.

Picture-Perfect Science will be lots of fun with many hands-on experiments while we learn! The curriculum follows the National Science Education Standards for K-4 and uses the basics of the scientific method. Every two weeks, we will read a fiction book and then a nonfiction book related to our weekly lesson topics, such as animals, fossils, trees, weather, electricity, sounds, shells, and more. This is a 2-year rotation class (we will be using the 2nd year curriculum) meaning we will do new experiments and topics in the 2025-26 year if there are repeat students.

Come join us as we walk together through the Pioneer Days! We will use literature and projects to learn our American History. We will cover famous historical figures, geography, poetry, and art. There will be plenty of hands-on activities to engage young minds in class as we try new recipes, play old fashioned games, do science experiments, create art relevant to the time period, and other practical life skills that often correlate with the chapter in the book we read that day. This is a two year rotation class. We will alternate books and activities to provide new material for returning students. This year we will be reading through Little House in the Big Woods.

In this class, we will look into the different aspects of literature and storytelling to learn what makes up a good story. Students will learn how to dissect the different components of a story as well as look at literary themes that run throughout our novel. In addition to short stories, we will also read a chapter book together as a class. To help us understand the story, we will add in various activities and projects. For students who hope to take this class 2 years in a row, the material will change to accommodate that to ensure they have something new to learn year 2. In this class, students will put together a binder of the 50 US states, a sectional map as we start a new state group, the Great Lakes, North America and major rivers of our country. We will practice our state knowledge and trivia through games and puzzles. Each student will also have a US map test sheet that he/she will color in as they memorize a state name. Description:

Basic physics concept will be taught in class that include simple machines, inertia, conservation of energy, molecular energy, pressure, density, surface tension, capillary action, and a whole lot more. We will explore everything from windshield wipers, rockets and ratchets, to cogs and cranes and then put it all together with fun LEGO projects. Some examples of projects are a balloon powered car and submarines. Short movies on "THE WAY THINGS WORK" based off the book by David Macaulay will be viewed to help understand the physics concept being taught. While most of the projects remain the same each year, I encourage a student who has previously taken this class to join us again as physics concepts can be abstract and take time to fully understand.

We will be using the Nourishing Traditions cookbook as our textbook which is largely based on the research of Dr. Weston A. Price. By the end of the school year students will have the skills and knowledge to serve their family a beautiful meal, gaining deeper knowledge and gratitude for how traditional whole foods build faith, health, families and communities.
