Junior Symposium (K-3)
Grade: K - 3 Min: 3 Max: 12 (12 seats remaining)
Min Assistants: 1 Max Assistants: 2 (1 seat remaining)
In this class, our prayer and vision is to expose the children to some of life's riches. We will encourage them to observe the beauty of God's creation and the arts inspired by it, and be able to articulate and discuss their observations, encouraging the habit of attention. Class will begin with prayer, a hymn, and a folk song, and will include rotating studies of artists, composers, and poetry, ending with nature study as often as possible. This class will mirror the 4-6 grade Symposium class. NOTE: This class works on a rotation. Students desiring to take it again will have all new material. Please note: This class is a wider age range. This is integral for the dynamic of the class
Beginning Sign Language
Grade: 2 - 3 Min: 4 Max: 12 (12 seats remaining)
Min Assistants: 1 Max Assistants: 1 (1 seat remaining)
This class will cover beginning sign language with a strong emphasis on ASL. We will learn to sign many words over the course of the year through practice with our hands, video instruction, worksheets, games and more. Vocabulary will be learned in subjects such as colors, animals, etc. We will also learn basic communication sentences that will be structured in exact English order but ASL word order will be discussed. A binder will be provided that students will add vocabulary sheets in order to study and practice at home. This class will cover the same lessons as last year.
Lego Physics (2-3)
Grade: 2 - 3 Min: 4 Max: 12 (12 seats remaining)
Min Assistants: 2 Max Assistants: 2 (Assistant Max Reached)
Basic physics concept will be taught in class that include simple machines, inertia, conservation of energy, molecular energy, pressure, density, surface tension, capillary action, and a whole lot more. We will explore everything from windshield wipers, rockets and ratchets, to cogs and cranes and then put it all together with fun LEGO projects. Some examples of projects are a balloon powered car and submarines. Short movies on "THE WAY THINGS WORK" based off the book by David Macaulay will be viewed to help understand the physics concept being taught. While most of the projects remain the same each year, I encourage a student who has previously taken this class to join us again as physics concepts can be abstract and take time to fully understand.

There will also be plenty of opportunities for speaking and praying out loud in front of the rest of the class to build confidence in public speaking.
