American Girl History

Welcome to the American Girl class! American Girl is a very special way to learn about the history on each doll and how they lived during their time of life. This class is so fun and very hands on and active with crafts, reading, songs, picnics, and my favorite, TEA PARTIES! You are welcome to bring your doll to class and all types of dolls are welcome. We will be creating in different ways. Cutting and making decor for parties and a lot of step-by-step instructions to follow. This class is best for 4th-6th graders. The desire to still play with dolls is a must! Students will earn points for purchasing items for their dolls and other treasures.
Chess 1 (Beginner)

Learn the most popular game ever invented! Chess develops spatial thinking, problem solving and builds focused concentration. Students will receive a one year Chesskid.com gold membership with class enrollment that will begin with chess basics and beginning tactics, and then progress through strategies for openings, defenses, and endings. Chess 1 is designed for the younger student or those who would like to learn chess at a slower progression than Chess 2. Classroom time will involve reinforcing concepts learned on Chesskid.com with board demonstrations, puzzles, group discussions, but most of all...PLAYING chess! Students will also learn chess variants, participate in puzzle challenges and in-class tournaments.
Learn to Crochet

This class will teach students the basics of crochet, including basic stitches, how to read patterns, how to choose yarn, and how to choose the correct hook size for your project. We will have in class instruction as well as handouts and videos to watch at home. We will use the stitches we learn to make simple items.

Lounge is a semi-quiet place for students and adults to hang out, work on schoolwork, visit with a friend, play a quiet card game, listen to music with headphones, etc. (see handbook for all details about Lounge). Lounge meets in the Fellowship Hall.

In this class we will focus on developing creative writing skills as well as a love of writing. This will include a focus on reading interesting stories and putting them into our own words, developing key word outlines, learning the different elements of story writing, how to format an essay in college style, writing and typing exercises, creative thinking and much more! Writing can be tough and this class will encourage your student to pursue skills in writing and learn to love it.
Zoology 3 (4-6)

Based on Gen 1:24-25, Apologia Zoology 3 takes students on a fascinating study of animals in jungles, deserts, forests, farms, and even their own backyard to explore the diverse creatures that God designed to inhabit the earth. We'll study mammals, reptiles, amphibians, dinosaurs, spiders, worms and more. We'll learn about their habitats, nutrition, behavior, tracks, and how God fashioned each one to be perfectly suited to survive and thrive in its own habitat. We’ll make observations in class and discuss how zoologists study animals. We’ll map the animals we study and record it all in their Notebooking journals. The easy-to-use Apologia science curriculum that will guide this class is written in an engaging narrative form and is fit for the entire family to read and enjoy together.
