Learn to Crochet

This class will teach students the basics of crochet, including basic stitches, how to read patterns, how to choose yarn, and how to choose the correct hook size for your project. We will have in class instruction as well as handouts and videos to watch at home. We will use the stitches we learn to make simple items.

Lounge is a semi-quiet place for students and adults to hang out, work on schoolwork, visit with a friend, play a quiet card game, listen to music with headphones, etc. (see handbook for all details about Lounge). Lounge meets in the Fellowship Hall.
Advanced Drawing

This class is for students who have some drawing background and would like to enhance their skills and gain some more techniques that they may not already have. Students will need to be able to follow along with demonstrations and be able to apply skills taught during class to their work. We will be covering a range of mediums and topics, including graphite, charcoal, colored pencils, and ink pens while working on drawing portraits, still-life, landscapes, animals, perspective and more. It is a class that will be designed for students wishing to enhance their skills they may already have and to be challenged and encouraged in creating art.

Exploring Creation with Health and Nutrition is such a fun and engaging course that will help us thrive in life as we cultivate healthy habits. We will learn how to honor God with all aspects of our health; physically, socially, mentally and spiritually. Students will see firsthand how each aspect of health is connected and can impact your life in either a positive or negative way. This class will take an in-depth look at the systems that contribute greatly to our health and well-being, like genetics, identity, temperament, balancing emotions, friendships, family relationships, nutrition, exercise, injury prevention, addiction avoidance, and Christ centered wisdom. Our lives are such a gift from God and we want to learn to be a good stewards of our bodies and relationships.
Intermediate Orchestra

Grow in your musicianship alongside friends, working together to create a sound bigger than yourself! This class is designed for students who already have a working knowledge of their instrument and want to discover the joy of ensemble playing. Music will be hand selected to match the instruments and skill sets we have within the class each year. Emphasis will be placed on understanding orchestra culture and ensemble playing as well as music theory and well-known symphonic composers.
Spanish 1

Students will learn the basics of conversing in the Spanish language! They will learn the alphabet, colors, numbers, days of the week, months, family members, common item names, verbs, conjugation, short phrases and many other words. They will also be learning about different Spanish speaking nations and cultures. This is a challenging course and although grading is on a complete/incomplete basis it will require commitment from parents and students. Internet access is required as all syllabus and course assignments are posted on Canvas. This is a high-school level course and could be equivalent to 1 foreign language credit.
Coffee Shop

WANTED! Baristas! Apply Within! This is your chance to learn a marketable skill that can be used directly in a real-world application. Students will be exposed to important business skills, including customer service, food and work safety, and team skills in a work environment. And of course, they will learn how to make delicious espresso drinks, which they will serve to co-op parents during 5th period. Students will also get to drink coffee. You've been warned!
Outdoor Games (8-12)

A fun and interactive class that focuses on skill development, application of knowledge, sportsmanship, spirituality and leadership. The class will consist of traditional field games and creative games that blend disciplines and skills from several different sports. We will rotate games approximately every 2-4 weeks. A positive attitude (win or lose) is required as is participation in all games and activities.
Cultural World Studies

"Where two rivers meet, the waters are never calm." Chadian proverb. This high school social studies course will cover the geopolitical development of various countries, in view of their history, geography, resources, and current political climate. Additionally, we will study the advance of the gospel in each country, weaving in the elements previously mentioned. I am teaching this from a biblical perspective, and will engage these topics with a view towards God’s goodness, truth and beauty. Some of the books used are not from an explicit Christian perspective. This class will fulfill the high school requirement for 1 full credit of social studies.
High School Literature

Come explore some of the greatest works of literature in the history of the world! This year, we will begin our literary journey off the shores of Greece and journey home with the battle-scarred Odysseus. Then we will take a tour through Hell. We will hear the incredible story of a slave whose journey to freedom inspired the abolitionist movement. And we will take a look at a world in the future that seems all too possible. We will journey to the East and explore some of the oldest stories in the oldest cultures, and we will top the year off with poetry from Japan to America. In short, we will see that stories told over centuries in different styles throughout cultures ring true and reflect our common humanity -- because they reflect aspects of the Truest Story, the Gospel.
