Description:

In this class, we will look into the different aspects of literature and storytelling to learn what makes up a good story. Students will learn how to dissect the different components of a story as well as look at literary themes that run throughout our novel. In addition to short stories, we will also read a chapter book together as a class. To help us understand the story, we will add in various activities and projects. For students who hope to take this class 2 years in a row, the material will change to accommodate that to ensure they have something new to learn year 2. NOTE: Books and activities change slightly from year to year as to accommodate for returning students.

Welcome to the American Girl class! American Girl is a very special way to learn about the history on each doll and how they lived during their time of life. This class is so fun and very hands on and active with crafts, reading, songs, picnics, and my favorite, TEA PARTIES! You are welcome to bring your doll to class and all types of dolls are welcome. We will be creating in different ways. Cutting and making decor for parties and a lot of step-by-step instructions to follow. This class is best for 4th-6th graders. The desire to still play with dolls is a must! Students will earn points for purchasing items for their dolls and other treasures.

This class will delve deeper into literature through homework and class discussion. We will have an exciting mix of books that will expose the students to other cultures, history and are adventure-filled as well as entertaining. Because of the variety of reading abilities, parents can choose to have the student read to themselves, a parent read, or listen to an audio book. Each week we will have class discussions pertaining to the book and go over the new vocab words they encounter in these great classics. This class has different books each year...Take a look!

Doss, they all have something in common: strong, Godly character. Building character at a young age sets our children up for success in life. Part history, social studies, and language arts, this fun class will examine the lives of people who exemplify the kind of character traits we want to develop. This class will take an in-depth look at the systems that contribute greatly to our health and well-being, like genetics, identity, temperament, balancing emotions, friendships, family relationships, nutrition, exercise, injury prevention, addiction avoidance, and Christ centered wisdom. J.R.R. Tolkien wrote the story that made the Fantasy genre what it is today. Where did such a story come from? In the first several weeks of class, we will be introduced to Tolkien the man and dive into some of the works that shaped his imagination, like the Anglo-Saxon poems 'The Wanderer,' and 'Beowulf.' The rest of the year will be spent reading all three volumes of the Lord of the Rings, with an occasional essay or short story thrown in. My hope is that you leave the class loving Lord of the Rings more than when you signed up, and that you develop an appreciation for Tolkien's belief in the ability of art to bring glory to our Creator. "Where two rivers meet, the waters are never calm." Chadian proverb. This high school social studies course will cover the geopolitical development of various countries, in view of their history, geography, resources, and current political climate. Additionally, we will study the advance of the gospel in each country, weaving in the elements previously mentioned. I am teaching this from a biblical perspective, and will engage these topics with a view towards God’s goodness, truth and beauty. Some of the books used are not from an explicit Christian perspective. This class will fulfill the high school requirement for 1 full credit of social studies.
