Learn to play a string instrument while discovering the joy of making music in a group setting! Students will learn skills in tone production, note reading (rhythmic and melodic), basic music theory, scales, and bowings. Emphasis will be placed on good technique, left and right-hand posture, tuning their own instrument, and ensemble playing. Participants in the orchestra will use movement, listening, and playing instruments to develop their own musical artistry while building friendships with their peers in a musical setting.

This is a class for older students. No one under the age of 10 is permitted without teacher permission! Students will be learning the elements of group singing, with music written in up to 3 parts. Basic sight reading, the elements of written music, and voice development will be taught. The goal is that the students achieve success and joy as the class works together to produce beautiful music. A variety of music, both sacred and secular will be learned. It is a joy to see the beauty of the music produced by the students and the satisfaction that they achieve in the process.

Lounge is a semi-quiet place for students and adults to hang out, work on schoolwork, visit with a friend, play a quiet card game, listen to music with headphones, etc. (see handbook for all details about Lounge). Lounge meets in the Fellowship Hall.

This class will introduce your student to the joy and beauty of watercolor painting. We will look at and learn different watercolor techniques as well as explore a few other aspects of art in general along the way. We will be learning about color theory, composition, light and shadow, and practicing some helpful drawing tips too.

This course is a middle school level class that covers a wide range of scientific topics. In this class we will be using the Apologia General Science 3rd Edition textbook to explore an assortment of scientific areas. Students will be introduced to the basics of astronomy, chemistry, biology and physics through a creative and hands-on approach to learning. Class time will be used to conduct experiments, as well as multi-sensory learning activities that support the topic of study.

From the shores of Greece to the chimney tops of London, we will experience what makes great stories great and why ancient tales continue to be retold in compelling ways today. We will learn to see how every story points us back to the One Story - the Gospel. The focus of this class will be on learning how to read with attention, exploring foundational literary imagery, examining the techniques authors use to tell a great story, and getting to know some great works of literature. In this class we will be going through “Trim Healthy You” it explains about all the different food groups and why we should be eating real food and what real food can do for our bodies. We will be cooking almost every class period, making some simple things and also more complex meals.

This course for beginning and intermediate photographers will take you through the basics of using any camera and its various built-in modes and how to use them. We will be covering composition rules, ISO, aperture, shutter speeds and the standard functions of your camera. Each student will gain confidence in shooting in manual by the end of the school year. Intermediate students will find the exercises are still challenging and stretches their creativity as well as technical skills. At the end of the year we will be ready to submit images to the Washington State Fair or other local judging and competition, if available. This could count as a full high school credit depending upon the time and effort the student puts in.

This class aims to develop Spanish conversational skills in an immersive environment. The class will be taught completely in Spanish, as skill and time allow. We will review the alphabet, colors, numbers, common item names, verbs, conjugation, short phrases and many other words as well as touch on more advanced grammar topics such as reflexive verbs and preterit tense. Students will practice reading and writing on different cultural topics. This is a challenging course and although grading is on a complete/incomplete basis it will require commitment from parents and students. Internet access is required as all syllabus and course assignments are posted on Canvas. This is a high-school level course and could be equivalent to 1 foreign language credit.
