Learn the most popular game ever invented! Chess develops spatial thinking, problem solving, and builds focused concentration. Chess 2 is designed for beginning students who are ready to tackle learning chess strategy at a faster pace and for returning students who want to continue learning and improving their chess game. Students will receive a one year Chesskid.com gold membership with class enrollment. This will allow them to utilize videos, lessons and puzzles on Chesskid.com to learn such things as how to build a pawn shield, create a fork with your knight, pin the rook, and skewer the queen - all on the way to checkmate! Students will also learn chess variants, participate in puzzle challenges, and in-class tournaments. The majority of class time will be spent PLAYING chess!

Welcome to Jr. Drama! In this class we have fun and a lot of energy. We will also work to build confidence, team building and communication skills. We play drama games, improv, short skits and more.

Lounge is a semi-quiet place for students and adults to hang out, work on schoolwork, visit with a friend, play a quiet card game, listen to music with headphones, etc (see handbook for all details about Lounge). Lounge meets in the Fellowship Hall.

"Math is seeing patterns, solving puzzles, using logic, finding ways to connect disparate ideas, and so much more." In Math Club, we will play around with all these elements through games, projects, activities, and non-routine problems that require deep thinking. Students will reinforce their comfort with the basic operations of arithmetic, as well as delving into fractions, decimals, and basic geometry.

Do you wonder if your student really comprehends the books they read? Many times students can answer simple questions about a book but miss the deeper meaning. This class will delve deeper into literature through homework and class discussion. We will have an exciting mix of books that will expose the students to other cultures, history and are adventure-filled as well as entertaining. Because of the variety of reading abilities, parents can choose to have the student read to themselves, a parent read, or listen to an audio book. Each week we will have class discussions pertaining to the book and go over the new vocab words they encounter in these great classics. This class was on a two-year rotation, but this year we will be reading some new books in addition to ones from year 1 rotation.
