This class is all about our country's history and why it matters to us today. This 1 credit high school class will teach students skills in assessing the vast amount of U.S. historical information that is available. We will use online resources to gain proficiency in using primary sources from the National Archives. Other online sources including Ken Burns historical video clips, and Digital Inquary Group activities will be used, all from a Christian perspective. This will be a very interactive class with not just learning historical facts, but why and how to study U.S. History.
This is a 1 credit class so 4 hours of homework should be expected outside of class each week. This will include reading and analyzing primary texts, watching teaching videos, writing short essays and occasional assessments.
It would be amazing to have your student visit the free exhibit of Freedom Plane Nation Tour which is displaying rare U.S. founding documents at the Museum of History and Industry in Seattle this summer. This is encouraged but not required.
Students will need a free Canvas (Instructure) account as all class materials and links will be posted there. All curriculum will be free on the Canvas account. A 1" 3 ring binder and writing utensils will also be needed.
$25 per semester for copies and class materials. Any unused fees will be returned at the end of the year. Venmo @ Ellie-McNicol
An openness to discussing different historical viewpoints. Most of the assignments can be done with accommodations for struggling readers and writers, but please contact me if your student might need these to talk through a game plan to set them up for success.
