Orchestra

Grade: 7 - 12 Min: 4 Max: 15 (11 seats remaining)

Min Assistants: 1 Max Assistants: 2 (1 seat remaining)

Description:

Grow in your musicianship alongside friends, working together to create a sound bigger than yourself! To accommodate a variety of student needs, this class may be divided into two instructional units, one for beginning players while the other is designed for students who already have a working knowledge of their instrument and want to discover the joy of ensemble playing. Music will be hand selected to match the instruments and skill sets we have within the class each year. Emphasis will be placed on understanding orchestra culture and ensemble playing as well as music theory and well-known symphonic composers.

Homework:

Practice, practice, practice! Students will be required to prepare individually and be a contributing member to the ensemble as a whole. A general practice recommendation is about 30 minutes a day with specific goals set by both the teacher and student. Theory homework will be assigned monthly and a final project will be due at the end of the year.

Special Projects:

We will be preparing for two full concerts to showcase what we have learned. If there is enough interest, a field trip to a professional symphony concert will be a fun learning experience!

Supplies/Curriculum to be Provided by Student:

A working instrument (violin, viola, or cello) and accessories (bow, rosin, shoulder rest) must be owned or rented. Additionally, all students should purchase a curriculum book (link will be emailed prior to the start of class), a music stand (for at-home practice), and download the Soundcorset metronome/tuner app to an accessible device. "Concert black" attire will be required for all performances.

Material Fees:

$20.00 per semester will cover the purchase of concert music, printing/copying, recital programs, etc. Venmo: @Sarah-Moore-96240
