The Write Class

Grade: 4 - 6 Min: 4 Max: 15 (6 seats remaining)

Min Assistants: 1 Max Assistants: 1 (Assistant Max Reached)

Description:

How do you teach children to write without constantly hearing moans and groans? This class is designed to inspire students to enjoy writing and to feel the success of publishing their own work in homemade books, newspapers, etc. We will use many forms of writing: poetry, short stories, articles, journals, and more. By the end of the year, your student will have a portfolio full of his/her accomplishments that he/she and you will treasure over the years. Students will also gain experience in public speaking as they share their writings with the class. Students are more than welcome to repeat the class! I have a 2-year rotation for this class with some new and old activities.

Homework:

1-2 hours per week. Students will need to keep up with the weekly assignments. They will also need parental help with editing and making corrections.

Special Projects:

We will have a few "Sharing Days" during class time throughout the year when we finish a special project. We have snacks and the students each have an opportunity to share their work. It makes it special if a parent or grandparent can attend.

Supplies/Curriculum to be Provided by Student:

Colored pencils, erasers, notebook paper, and several sharpened or mechanical pencils. Please keep supplies replenished throughout the year. (I will provide a folder & portfolio for finished work)

Material Fees:

$10 (1st semester), $5 (2nd Semester), Venmo: @Eliana-Sansburn

Skills Needed:

Students need to be able to read confidently on their own and have some basic writing skills (i.e. ability to write sentences). I am happy to work with students at all different levels, but keep in mind that this class is a partnership with parents. Your student will need your help with editing.
