Description:

Students will learn the basics of conversing in the Spanish language! They will learn the alphabet, colors, numbers, days of the week, months, family members, common item names, verbs, conjugation, short phrases and many other words. They will also be learning about different Spanish speaking nations and cultures. This is a challenging course and although grading is on a complete/incomplete basis it will require commitment from parents and students. Internet access is required as all syllabus and course assignments are posted on Canvas. This is a high-school level course and could be equivalent to 1 foreign language credit.

Homework:

Students should anticipate around 4 hours of homework per week. This will include textbook exercises, extra worksheets, 15 minutes of practice per day in the app included with the text book and a weekly current event or cultural project.

Special Projects:

Cultural projects will be assigned throughout the year and will consist of a short oral report with visual aids.

Supplies/Curriculum to be Provided by Student:

Easy Spanish Step-by-Step (ISBN 978-0-07-146338-6) (Textbook is REQUIRED), electronic device (computer, smartphone, tablet) and internet access for app-based homework and Canvas, a Canvas account, multiple sharpened pencils, index cards, extra large 3-ring binder, red pen.
