Beginning Watercolor
Grade: 7 - 12 Min: 8 Max: 14 (7 seats remaining)
Min Assistants: 1 Max Assistants: 2 (Assistant Max Reached)
This class will introduce your student to the joy and beauty of watercolor painting. We will look at and learn different watercolor techniques as well as explore a few other aspects of art in general along the way. We will be learning about color theory, composition, light and shadow, and practicing some helpful drawing tips too.
There will be 1-2 hours of homework per week depending on projects we are working on in class. I will weekly send out a link or links to watercolor/art tutorials as part of the homework for the week. Depending on your student’s interest, they could spend more time painting throughout the week if they choose to. Art is a skill as well as a talent, and the more practice the better!
We will be looking at a lot of different artists and their work throughout the year to gain a better understanding of style and technique in watercolor. Displaying art to share with others is an important part in the creative process and to that end we will work on watercolor projects to be entered in the Spring Fair. This will be done in a step by step progression to build confidence along the way. Another important aspect of this class will be class discussions about the place art has in our lives and communities and ultimately how we see God’s plan and heart for art in the world—He is the greatest Artist after all!
Students will need extra watercolor paper available to them at home for practicing. I will provide links to some options for you to purchase. I will provide all materials they need for in class work. Students will need to have access to an email address and computer for homework and links to any tutorial videos that may be part of the homework for any given week.
$55 for the 1st semester and $25 for the second semester. Materials I will provide for your student include: a refillable metal paint palette, watercolor paint to fill their half pans, watercolor paint brushes, watercolor paper to be used in class, drawing pencils and erasers. We will be using quality supplies that your student can continue using well after our class is finished. Any unused fees will be returned at the end of the year. Venmo: @Eliana-Sansburn
Just a willingness to be cooperative in class and try new things.
Students should enjoy art and have a desire to learn and try new things! Specifically-watercolor. As long as they come with a good attitude to try, they will have a great time. They must be able to read instructions, and ask for help when needed (either in class or during the week by email, phone, or Facetime with the supervision of a parent.) No previous art experience is necessary.
