Description:

“Lights, camera, action” - join our drama class for a front-row seat to the spotlight! Our drama class is a space where students can build confidence, work collaboratively with their peers, and develop their communication skills. In class, we will play fun drama games, perform short skits, do improv, and more. Students will have the opportunity to participate in a final showcase where they can display their skills and perform in front of an audience. This showcase is a chance for students to celebrate their hard work and growth throughout the year.

Homework:

We will learn staging terms and vocabulary. Extra time will be required when memorizing lines for preparing for a production. Acting often requires a significant time commitment.

Special Projects:

Our goal is to perform at least one production during the year. Extra rehearsals will be necessary and expected when we are working on a production. Extra rehearsals will be scheduled after co-op on Mondays, during lunch, or on a separate day for extended rehearsals. Students will be expected to stay on schedule with memorizing lines and preparing for productions.

Supplies/Curriculum to be Provided by Student:

Notebook, pen or pencil, and a highlighter. A water bottle is also a good idea. A cell phone may be handy for recording scenes for reference later in the week, but not required. Students may be tasked with providing costumes for their roles. Most costume supplies can be found in a thrift store. Searching for the right costume can be a creative expression of character development.

Material Fees:

$30 per semester. Make payments to April McDonald. (Do not pay Gloria's Venmo.)

Skills Needed:

Dedication: Be prepared to dedicate the necessary time and energy to the class and to your role in productions. Teamwork: Drama is a collaborative art form, and you'll need to work closely with teachers and other students. Discipline: Students will need the ability to follow directions and maintain focus. Positivity: Positivity is crucial in this class as it helps create a supportive, encouraging, and motivating environment that fosters creativity, teamwork, and learning.

Prerequisites:

No previous acting experience is required to enroll.
