This class is all about discovering and having fun with classic children's books! Each week we will read a book from various authors, such as James Marshall, Tomie DePaola, Mary Hofstrand, William Steig, Kevin Henkes, and many more. We will also explore a subject that coincides with the book read that day with games, crafts, etc. Toward the end of the co-op year, I will help your child discover the joy of being the author/illustrator of their very own book. Children's literature has had a great impact on my life and I am excited for the opportunity to share my passion with your child!
Each week I will encourage students to bring a favorite book from home that we can read in class if time allows and there will often be a completed project that you will want to be sure to take home at the end of the day. There will not be any homework assigned during the week as my hope is that this class will be a supplement and inspiration to what you are already doing at home. Note: We do read the same books every year since many correspond with holidays and the seasons. I find that students who take my class a second year enjoy reading the stories again, along with the crafts that are designed to encourage creativity and imagination.
Sharpened pencils & colored pencils, crayons, glue stick, and scissors.
